Pacific® Gala
U.S. PLANT PATENT (PP 9681)
|
|
|
Discovered as a whole tree mutation of Royal GalaŽ by Dick and
Larry Olsen in 1989. The coloration of the fruit was observed to
be distinctly different than the Tenroy cultivar and the Galaxy Gala
(Kiddle cultivar USPP #6955), showing much higher color on 90 to 100%
of fruit. The completeness and uniformity of the color development is
similar to that seen with UltraRedTM (Obrogala Cultivar USPP #8621),
with a more pronounced stripe than the Obrogala Cultivar. The stripe
on Pacific GalaŽ is more subdued than the stripe on Royal GalaŽ.
Tests are showing that Pacific GalaŽ stores much better than Royal
GalaŽ in both common and Controlled Atmosphere conditions, with little
or no shriveling. Flavor remains sweet and pleasant throughout its
storage life.
UltraRedTM is a trademark of Stark Brothers Nurseries.
